Permanent Jewelry

Do I need an appointment?

We accept walk-ins at both of our storefronts, but appointments do take priority. If there are appointments when you come in, you'd have to wait for the next available welder.

If you have a group, we do recommend making an appointment to ensure we're able to take you!

How long does it take?

Truly, deciding what you want is the hardest part! The actual welding process is pretty quick and will take around 5-10 minutes depending on what you get.

Does it hurt?

No, absolutely not! We size the chain to you and then when we weld the bracelet, it doesn't even touch your skin. There's nothing painful about the process. We will also walk you through the entire thing if you're a little nervous!

What is permanent jewelry?

Permanent jewelry has taken the internet by storm. It is bracelets, necklaces, or anklets that are welded right onto you so there is no clasp and they don't come off.

That sounds scary, but it's not at all. There is zero pain on your end whatsoever!

You leave with a piece that is custom-fitted to you and you're able to personalize it to make it your own.

What materials are the chains made of?

We use 14k gold-filled and sterling silver chains. They are great options for permanent jewelry because they're hypoallergenic and durable.

Where can I get permanent jewelry?

We have two locations within Metro Detroit!

Royal Oak Location:
1196 S. Washington Ave
Royal Oak, MI 48067

Rochester Location:
333 S. Main Street
Rochester, MI 48307

We are accepting walk-ins, but if we’re booked during the time you come there would be a wait until the welder is open. If there’s a specific time you’d like to come in, Click here to book an appointment.

We also do pop-ups up all over the Metro Detroit area. Click here for our event calendar. Our Instagram also has the most up-to-date list of where we will be welding jewelry!

If you are a business and want us to do a permanent jewelry pop-up in your space, please fill out this form and we will get back to you within 24 hours.

We are also booking private parties! Click here to learn more.

Can I get a clasp?

Absolutely, we've got you covered!

If you aren't into something being permanent or aren't able to for any reason, we can put a clasp on it for you so it's a piece you can take on and off.

It's also ok to change your mind --

If you get a piece and decide after the fact that you don't want it to be permanent, we can add a clasp onto it for you.

If you get a clasp and then decide you want it to be permanent, we can remove the clasp. Depending on if the chain is long enough without the clasp, we'd either just attach it or you may need to add a charm to it to add enough length to make up for the clasp.

What if I want/need to take it off?

If for any reason you want to remove your jewelry, simply cut it off with scissors or wire cutters. We suggest cutting it where the connecting link we added is so you can save the chain. We can reweld it in the future if you ever want to.

Can I go through TSA with it on?

Yes! You can keep your permanent jewelry on while going through airport security.

Will it tarnish or turn my skin green?

We are picky about the materials we work with for permanent jewelry.

14k gold-filled chain is really resistant to tarnishing which makes it a great option for permanent jewelry. There are few people whose body pH reacts when changes happen hormonally or environmentally. This may make your skin turn green or black, but it washes right off. It does not affect the quality of the chain and as soon as those factors level back out, the jewelry will stop changing your skin!
*Please avoid products with sulfur in them if you have gold-filled jewelry. This ingredient in particular will damage gold-filled jewelry. There are some rx facial cleansers with it in them.

Sterling silver naturally tarnishes, but the more you wear it, the better it looks. The natural friction and oil from your body will help keep your silver nice and shiny. When exposed to certain chemicals like hot tubs or pools, you may notice the piece looks tarnished. Usually it'll shiny back up within a few days of wearing it. If for any reason it starts looking dull, you can rub a polishing cloth over it to shine it back up.

What is your reweld policy?

The minimalist appearance and ease of wearing permanent jewelry makes it the perfect choice for everyday wear. Despite the fact that you do not take it on and off each day, they are still delicate pieces of jewelry that can break.

Should your bracelet, anklet or necklace:

• Get caught on something

• Break

• Stretch

Visit us at a pop-up, book an appointment or walk-in for a Permanent Jewelry Adjustment! If we are unable to repair the chain or you want to different style chain we will offer you a discount to replace the chain.

Essbe is not liable for lost chains. Permanent jewelry or custom pieces are final sale.

What is the difference between gold plated & gold-filled?

Gold plated jewelry contains a very thin layer of gold over a base metal (usually brass or copper). The piece is dipped in essentially a gold bath. The amount of gold is about .05%. This means the jewelry will no hold up over time when exposed to water, heat, chemicals, etc. The layer is so small that it exposes the skin to the base metal meaning it’s not hypoallergenic for those with metal allergies. It’s the lowest cost of gold jewelry available.

Gold-filled jewelry has almost 100x more gold than plated does. The gold is bonded to the base metal instead of plated so it can’t rub off. It does not expose the skin to the base metal making it hypoallergenic. The layer of gold is thick enough to make it perfect for everyday wear, and since it’s not solid gold the price point is much more affordable. If you take care of your gold-filled pieces, they can last a lifetime!

How does bracelet sizing work?

Our standard fit bracelet works for the majority of our customers, but we always want you to have something that is comfortable for you which is why we offer custom sizing on our bracelets when needed.

Please note this needs to be done at the time of purchase as the item will be custom made for you.

To measure your wrist:
Measure around your wrist with a soft tape measure (or string and then a ruler!) and add 1/2”. That generally makes for a very comfortable fit. Our beaded bracelets are stretchy so the sizing is forgiving and does not need to be exact.
For reference:
Sarah’s wrist is 5.75” and she wears the 6.75” bracelet
Jenna’s wrist is 7" and she wears the 7.5” bracelet
