I’ve decided not to renew the lease of our Royal Oak store and our last day being open there will be Sunday, January 12th. Our Rochester store is not going anywhere and we are still open 7 days a week there!
2 years ago I signed a lease to open the first Essbe storefront. I got right to work making that tiny space everything I wanted it to be with the help of my team and my family. We opened our doors and this community immediately supported my dream. It was more than I could’ve ever asked for.
Since the beginning, we’ve been slowly outgrowing the space. We pretty quickly ran out of room for our product offerings, don’t have any type of backroom or storage to speak of, and inconveniently don’t have a bathroom connected to our unit. When it was time to consider our lease, it was pretty obvious that this space no longer suits us & it would be time to say goodbye to it (especially when comparing it to our location on Main Street in Rochester)
It’s bittersweet to close the chapter of Essbe’s first storefront for a lot of reasons. It holds so many memories for me and was a true pinch-me moment to get to open a store. It was also the beginning of really growing my team. It was a reminder of how great my support system is with everything they put in to help me get the store open. Plus, all the videos I have of Theo being so tiny when we were working on it makes me wish I could’ve stopped time right then and there!
On the other hand, I’m really excited for the future of Essbe. I’m so proud of the business I’ve built and the fact that we could even outgrow a store blows my mind (even if it was a tiny one!) It’s also going to be so nice to put all of my focus into one location for the time being and really serve our community the best we possibly can.
I have no idea what the future holds or if/when I’ll be announcing another storefront opening, but for now it’s see you later, Royal Oak. Thank you for everything 🤍
